Combating the Stigma of Addiction in Healthcare: Nursing Considerations-10/22/25-5:30-8:00 PM

Stigma is a major barrier to quality healthcare for people who use drugs and suffer from substance use disease.  Experiences of dehumanization by healthcare workers are associated with care avoidance and self-directed hospital discharge among people who use drugs.  Nurses need to understand current tools that destigmatize care at the individual level as a critical step toward improving care for people who use drugs within the healthcare environment.  This program will review relevant skills that will support patients, encouraging them to share their challenges with addiction without judgment.
